With little resistance left, the Metis were sweeped through by the federal soldiers. Gabriel Dumont fled instantly and went into hiding. Louis, Jin, Kujo and their allies fought to the very end, But it proved to be useless, Louis told Jin and Kujo to run, as they were needed to stay alive and continue the Metis as he would provide distraction. It was a brave battle, but Louis was forced to surrender to the federal soldiers.
